5 Summer Essential Fashion Items for 2018 Trends
The Hot weather is official here. It’s summer in most parts of the world (I won’t get into geography). Out with the cold nights and in with the warm long sunny days. It’s during this time where we usually change our wardrobe into something summer-y.
No more jeans, jackets or sweaters. Yes to shorts, light button downs and t-shirts. To help prepare you for those sunny days, make sure you have these essentials to keep you always ready for summer weather.
1. Who likes short shorts?
This one is an obvious one yes, but what’s trending right now for shorts you might ask? Stay away from shorts that are too baggy, that look just isn’t right unless you’re playing basketball or heading to the gym.
Like skinny jeans, get shorts that are fitted and not too loose or long. Personally, I like anything between a 7″ – 9″ length of shorts. Anything higher or lower is either too long or too short… Unless you like short shorts. I’m not judging.
- Jean shorts are always a staple in shorts, they’ve got a great look and can look great with practically anything.
- Flat front shorts are worn more with button downs and polos. They have a more classy and cleaner look.
- Sweat shorts are a new thing. Imagine wearing a sweats like material but cut to become shorts. Yes to Comfy.
- Board Shorts are basically swim drunks but without the lining. They’re a little on the baggier side but tend to be more quick drying if exposed to water.
- Swim Trunks needs no explanation here. You use these to swim in. Lately, fashion forward trends are promoting the use of swim trunk like materials for everyday wear. In my opinion they should just stick to the pool.
2. “I wear my Sunglasses at Night” – Corey Hart
Don’t actually wear your sunglasses at night, it’s just a song. You should during the day though! It’s actually really important to protect your eyes from the harsh sun. Sunglasses aren’t only for a fashion statement – they help you see during the bright sunny days and protect you from the suns UV (ultraviolet) rays.
Once you have a pair, please don’t think you can stare directly at the sun now. Remember that there’s only so much sunglasses can do. Ever hear about the phrase “If you stare at the sun too long, you’ll go blind” ? Well let’s be honest, you probably can’t stare at the sun for too long before you turn away. However, long term exposure to UV rays have proven to lead to a decrease in vision aka Cataracts.
So invest in a good pair, ones that have a good amount of UV protection and look nice. To name a few styles:
3. No Show Socks
Plain and simple. Only a few looks can really pull of long socks with shorts but I wouldn’t steer into this direction as this style is a little harder to pull off.
No show socks are great because well, they’re not seen. It creates this look like you’re wearing your shoes barefoot. Honestly this style is timeless and creates a really casual vibe.
No, these types of socks are not only for women. Get that idea out of your head because we tend to see a lot more of no show socks nowadays.
4. T-shirts and short sleeve button downs
It’s the season to wear short sleeves and plain T-shirts. I know everyone should have a T-shirt or short sleeve in their closet, but I want to remind everyone that sizing and the fit of the shirt definitely counts.
Take for example, the long line t-shirt which is basically what it’s named – a long t-shirt. This trend is huge and still is sold in a lot of places. People are loving the stylish baggy look.
Then there’s the athletic fitted look. There’s one thing to remember about a fitted T-shirt – You don’t want to be wearing shorts or pants that are too baggy. The proportions may affect the style you’re going for. I’ve seen this way too many times where a person wears a tight shirt but shorts that are super long and baggy.
5. Accessorize – Watches, bracelets and rings
Accessories can be worn all season, but they especially shine when the suns out.
Your arms are exposed so it’s a great time to show off your watch collection, bracelets and rings. Don’t overdo it though, be careful not to wear 10 different leather bracelets at once.
Find colors that work with your style and even those that contrast. People are going to be looking, so give them something to look at.
