Am I going bald?

So you think you’re going bald

Advice for guys who are worried about hair loss

You’re showering and you notice strands of hair circling the drain, but you shrug it off. Maybe you were a little too rough with the shampoo. Then you see there’s more hair than usual caught in your brush after brushing your hair. Oh well. Maybe you should use a different brush. But then you wake up and there’s a lot of hair left on your pillow. Now you’re worried. Should you be losing this much hair? Are you going (gulp) bald!?!

First, calm down. Get up from the fetal position, and have a glass of orange juice.

You good? Cool. Drink in some of that vitamin C because it’s gonna help you out.

Look, it’s normal to lose around 50 to 150 hair strands per day. It happens to everyone, and it doesn’t mean you’re going bald. It might be a temporary thing that you can help reverse or slow down by changing a few things in your life:

Avoid or Manage Stress

Stress is just hard on your body in general. Guys can lose hair, gain weight, and develop other health problems because of stress. It’s difficult to avoid stress altogether. Demands at work or school (or both) will bring about stressful situations. The key is finding a way to manage your stress. You can paint, go running, do yoga, or meditate. Do whatever works for you.

Exercise is a great way to manage stress and live a healthier lifestyle. Your overall health can be reflected in things like your hair. When you’re active and exercising it helps improve your circulation which helps get the blood flowing where it needs to go – like your head.

Eat Well

Ever heard of the saying, “A carrot a day, keeps the hair plugs away?” No? Good, because I just made it up. That doesn’t mean it’s not true.

Eating more fruit and vegetables helps you get more vitamins and minerals that give you a healthy head of hair. Eat food that’s rich in vitamin A, like carrots and dark leafy greens. Eggs offer up a double dose of goodness for your hair by delivering vitamin A AND protein. Leafy greens like kale, swiss chard, and spinach are great sources for vitamins A and C, as well as folic acid.

Even if you don’t think you’re losing your hair, these foods will help you give you thicker, fuller, and healthier hair. And eating well is just a good idea in general.

Losing a few follicles a day is normal and it can be caused by a number of things from the medication you’re taking to other health issues. These are just a few ways to fight hair loss. There are more strategies out there that you can use too.

But if you’re losing significantly more hair than 50 to 150 strands, you may be suffering from male pattern baldness. The good news is that great people are developing incredible hair loss systems to help guys get their full head of hair back. The future is bright gentlemen. But you should still try to eat more fruit and veggies.
