10 Hair Facts You Need to Know
How much do you really know about your hair? How it’s grown? what it can do? There’s a lot we don’t know about ourselves that sometimes it’s good to get a breakdown and appreciate what we have. Here are 10 hair facts.
1.We lose hair
This one has been talked about but still raises concern. If you see hair when you’re styling or washing your hair it’s completely normal.
We typically lose about 40 – 150 strands a day! So don’t worry if you see a couple strands here and there. However, if you start seeing chunks of hair falling out I would be worried and you should see what’s wrong.
2. Hair is made of Keratin
That’s right, our hair is made up of the same stuff that our outer layer of skin and nails are made of.
3. Growing your hair takes patience
It takes around 2-3 years to get hair to grow to your shoulders.
4. Hair is strong
A whole head of hair is strong enough to hold an elephant
5. How many strands of hair do we have on our scalp?
100,000 – 150,000 strands.
6. Hair grows faster than you think
On average, hair can grow anywhere from 0.3mm to 0.5mm per day. On top of that, hair is one of the fastest growing tissues in the human body – bone marrow being the first.
7. Crime Scene Investigation
Hair has been known to be used for forensic science. This is because our hair contains anything that has ever been into our bloodstream.
8. The life of hair
Typically a single hair can last up to 5 years
9. Hair provides heat
Hair acts as an insulator to help keep and trap heat – also protecting our heads!
10. Hair is dead and alive
Technically speaking, hair outside our scalp has no nerves or blood so it could be labeled as dead hair. The only part of our hair that is alive is inside our scalp – hair follicles.
