How to Get Volume All Day
How does Joe get so much volume and make it last so long?
It starts with the Haircut
It’s simple to say but it is so true. For example, if your hair is too long you can imagine gravity will bring it down heavily. Whereas if your hair is shorter your hair is going to stay up longer. Find that sweet spot! not too long or not too short. For Joe, it’s about 5 inches.
You need Pre-styler + Blow dryer. Pre-stylers help mold your hair in the direction or shape that you desire. You definitely want something lighter because as you blow dry, if the product is too heavy, it will weigh down your hair instead of give it volume – avoid clays and pomades for pre-styling. Instead use something that has a light weight control. Mousse is a product that is supposed to give you nice volume when used. But another alternative is Original styling Meraki by BluMaan.
Investing in a good blow dryer
will greatly help with the pre-styling. If your blow dryer isn’t strong enough for example it wont be able to dry your hair efficiently and might even damage your hair from exposing too much heat improperly. But of course, technique is the key here.
Joe wets his hair to show you how it’s done! He Starts off with some Original styling Meraki and then straight to the blow drying with his favorite brush – A vented brush.
It’s good to know the natural direction your hair falls because you should use this as an advantage. If you don’t know the natural direction your hair falls, try taking a shower and seeing how your hair falls after towel drying.
When you start blow drying, your hair will always want to go in it’s natural direction. So the technique here is to blow dry in the opposite direction. What ends up happening is that the hair will want to move back to it’s natural positioning and because your forcing it to go somewhere it’s not naturally supposed to be, it begins to create that luscious volume.
It’s time to post-style
Depending on your hair type, if you’re wanting to keep your hairstyle lasting all day, be sure to use the right product. Joe’s post style product of choice is Cavalier Heavy Clay. The reason why a clay works so well as a post-style is because the heavy properties of a clay will lock your hair in place and it’s great for Joes thick hair.
Don’t be afraid to take product with you. Sometimes weather can really mess up your hair. So having it with you during the day can be a life saver no matter where you are.
